Education & Background
Dr. Metzger specializes in treatment of the upper extremity. Shoulder and elbow throwing injuries have been one of his primary interests. He has expertise in all conditions of the wrist and hand as well. Dr. Metzger attended Texas A&M from 1982-1986, where he received his BS in Chemical Engineering. After working for 2 years as a chemical engineer, he changed professions, and went to the University of Texas Medical School in Galveston from 1988 to 1992, where he earned his MD degree.
Dr. Metzger then completed a fully accredited Orthopedic Surgery Residency at Louisiana State University Medical Center in Shreveport, from 1992 to 1997. He then served as the Chief of Orthopedic Surgery at the Overton Brooks Veteran's Affairs Medical Center from 1997 to 1998.
He then did an elective, extra year of training as a Fellow in Hand and Microvascular Surgery at the University of Alabama in Birmingham, from 1998 to 1999. This is where he gained expertise in the surgical treatment of conditions of the Shoulder, Arm, Elbow, Wrist, and Hand, with emphasis on arthroscopic and microsurgical techniques.

Certification & Qualification
Dr. Metzger is certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery, and a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons. He holds a Certificate of Added Qualification in Hand Surgery and is an active member of the American Society for Surgery of the Hand. He has memberships in the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, the American Medical Association, the Texas Medical Association, and the Harris County Medical Society.
